The history of Yavornytskoho Avenue dates back to the founding of Ekaterinoslav (now Dnepropetrovsk) in 1780. Originally known as Ekaterinsky Avenue, it was renamed Karl Marx Avenue in 1923. The development of the main street was a gradual process, and improvements to the avenue were made over the years. In 1847, works to clean and beautify the street were initiated, with boulevards being laid in the center and on both sides. The pace of improvement accelerated with the construction and opening of the railway station in 1884. By 1903, the avenue was illuminated with streetlights, and the first cinemas "Lux," "Modern," and "Palace" were opened.

Yavornytskoho Avenue is lined with paving stones, giving it a similar appearance to the expensive streets in Lviv. Along the avenue, one can find numerous old buildings, including the Historical Museum, the Mining University, the faculties of economics, geology, and applied mathematics at Dnipropetrovsk National University, and the city executive committee. The street is adorned with various sites and monuments, such as the "Eternal Glory" monument, the "Battle for the Dnepr" diorama, the memorial cemetery of fallen soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, and monuments dedicated to famous figures like MV Lomonosov, Gogol NV, Paul N., AF Fyodorov, VP Chkalov, M. Gorky, and GI Petrovsky. At 103 Karl Marx Avenue stands the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Catherine.
